The Situation in Nashville

My friend Kelsey took this picture of downtown Nashville today from the footbridge that crosses the Cumberland River connecting downtown and the Tennessee Titans’ stadium.

I went to college at Belmont University in Nashville, met my wife in Nashville, more deeply learned to believe and live the gospel of Jesus Christ in Nashville, and made many lifelong friends in Nashville.

Many folks are displaced, and though the rain has subsided, the worst is probably yet to come as a clearer picture of the damage emerges.

Please pray for the city. Particularly those who’ve lost loved ones and those who’ll be staying in shelters for an indefinite period of time only to return damaged homes. Pray that the churches there would manifest and proclaim Christ to the untold hurting ones around them.

Tonight, while playing the awesome Strategery game on my iPhone, something came to mind:

Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. – Ephesians 5:15-16

And, by the grace of God, I asked myself, Is playing this game ever the best use of my brief time in light of the gospel?

I’m now a few apps shorter on my phone. It’s a small step.

A New Horror Film

Plot summary: The world is covered in pollen. Homes are covered—inside and out—with a yellow-green caking. Then Apple genetically engineers nano-insects to clear the streets. But then they mutate, becoming the size of a Smart Car due to the huge amount of available food. Once the streets are cleared, they have to come inside to feed. They’ll eat whatever pollen they can find now. Even the little bit that gathers on the iPad by your pillow while you sleep…

Isaiah wrote this about Christ hundreds of years before he came. A few years after Jesus’ death, Paul wrote:

> 1 Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.>> 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. 7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. 8 Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me. . . .

Christ is risen. This changes everything.
