The New Gold Rush

Buy Gold

The “buy gold!” trend seems to be raging in light of the recent economic events, but does gold really have any more value than some shares of stock? I suppose it’s somewhat easier to sell a bar of gold than a piece of paper with some numbers on it, but it’s sure not going to feed your family when the world is burning. And it’ll be hard to sell then, too.

Your gold and silver have corroded, and their corrosion will be evidence against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up treasure in the last days. (James 5:3)

Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. (Luke 12:33)

There’ve been signs in Brentwood shrieking “Cash for Gold NOW” and the like, apparently convening in the Holiday Inn. Dave Ramsey had a simulcast last week, which we attended at a nearby church; he addressed the gold question and remarked, Why on earth would you want to invest in a substance that is at an 187-year high right now?

    I’m glad Ramsey’s with me!
